How to play Classic Snake
Classic Snake is a single-player arcade game played on a 20 × 14 grid. Guide the moving snake toward each food square, grow longer, and keep its head clear of the walls and tail.
Objective and classic Snake rules
The snake moves continuously once the run starts. Turn it up, down, left, or right, but not directly back into itself. Eating the food grows the tail by one grid cell. Fill the entire board to win, or keep playing for the highest score you can reach.
Controls
- Steer: use the arrow keys, WASD, or the on-screen direction pad.
- Pause: press Space or use the Pause button.
- Restart: press R or use Restart to prepare a fresh run.
Food, scoring, levels, and speed
Each food square adds one body segment and 10 points. The level rises after every five foods, and each new level shortens the movement interval until the maximum game speed is reached. Your best score is stored locally in this browser.
Walls, tail collisions, and game over
A run ends when the snake's head moves beyond the grid edge or enters a cell occupied by its body. The result screen shows the final score, level, and food total, then offers a new run or a return to the game library.
A reliable first strategy
Leave space ahead of the head and avoid dividing the board into small pockets. Wide turns are safer than last-second corrections once the tail becomes long and the speed increases.
